Galapagos Morning
Oil
26 x 48"

In the midst of my early work in Antarctica, I was invited to travel to the opposite extreme, the equatorial islands of the Galapagos off the coast of Ecuador. As we migrated from island to island, the distinct variations of flora and fauna clearly conveyed the evolutionary evidence first discovered by Darwin. In both science, and in the broadest sense, religion, these islands are hallowed ground, an invaluable repository of the value of remoteness.
